A government leader from the United Kingdom predicts full marriage equality in the U.K. will be legalized by the next general election.

Simon Hughes, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats, says the laws concerning religious ceremonies will not change if gay marriage becomes legal, because specific religions determine who can marry in their places of worship, according to The Telegraph.

Gay couples in the U.K. may enter a civil partnership, but do not have marriage rights.

Gay activists want the coalition government to fulfill campaign promises, which said they would seriously consider gay marriage.
