There has been plenty of outcry against the "electric cars are gay" joke in the upcoming Vince Vaughn comedy The Dilemma, but actress and comedian Sarah Silverman won't be taking up the cause any time soon.
"Pick your battles," Silverman told New York magazine. "Maybe that's the one you want to pick, but I don't know. I didn't really get passionate about it."
The actress, star of Comedy Central's now-canceled The Sarah Silverman Program, wrote off the controversial joke in the Ron Howard-directed comedy as harmless.
"You know, it's like when an old person is racist, or Jerry Lewis says that women aren't funny," Silverman says. "It's like, 'Who cares? It's adorable.'"
Silverman's comment comes on the heels of a video she recently uploaded to YouTube, in which she reprimands opponents of gay rights for being appalled at instances of antigay bullying, saying "don't be [expletive] shocked and wonder where all these bullies are coming from ... they learned it from you."
